Education is the key to a bright and successful future. All deserve a chance to get a quality education to grow and succeed in life. It increases self confidence and develops the personality of a person. Educated person can shape a better society to live in by knowing the rules and laws of a nation.

Balganga Degree College is situated at Sendul, Tehri Garhwal at the confluence of Balganga and Bhilangana River. College is named after Balganga, which flows nearby college. Balganga Siksha Prasar Samiti is the mother institute of Balganga Degree College Sendul Kemar, Tehri Garhwal. Balganga Siksha Prasar Samiti was established in 1966 – 67 at village Kemra, Tehri Garhwal by Dr. Bachaspati Maithani a social activitist, learned and educationist with local educationist and social activist to provide the educational facilities to the locality.

Balganga Shiksha Prasar Samiti started a junior high school in 1973 at village Kemra, Silyara, Tehri Garhwal. It was upgraded to inter college in 1986. State government took over the school in 1986. This was the first major work by Balganga Shiksha Prasar Samiti in the field of education. In the decade of 90s, in Bhilangana block, there were near about 20 intermediate colleges, which were providing the education up to 12th in this locality. But there was no higher educational institute in this area. After doing their inter students had to go other place for higher education which was very expensive. So most of the students were deprived from higher education as there was no institute for higher education in this area. So institute for higher education was the need of this area. Balganga Shiksha Prasar Samiti felt the need of area for higher education. Samiti conducted many meetings in different place and got the opnion of local people. After the long discussion with the local educationist and social activist, Samiti decided to open a degree college in this area. People of Village Sendul decided to donate land for college building. So Samiti decided to open Degree College in Sendul.

Balganga Degree College was established on 5th August 1991 at Sendul, Kemar, Tehri Garhwal by Dr. Bachaspati Maithani under the patronship of renowned environmentalist Shri Sunder Lal Bahuguna, to provide the facilities of higher education. It was inaugurated by then vice Chancellor of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University Srinagar Garhwal Prof. S.P. Nautiyal. Sendul village is situated at centre of Bhilangna and Jakhanidhar block. It situated at distance of only 3 kilometer from Tahsil headquarter Ghansali. In 1991 only 18 students sought admission in B.A. First year. From 1991 to 1995 college ran privately without affiliation and recognition. In 1995 college got temporary affiliation and recognition in Arts from Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University Srinagar Garhwal. In 2002 college got temporary affiliation and recognition in Science from H.N.B. Garhwal University Srinagar Garhwal. In 2006, after a hunger strike by student union, college got permanent affiliation and recognition from H.N.B.G.U. Srinagar Garhwal and state government. Since then college is making steady progress. College has its own building, well equipped library, laboratory in Geography, Drawing and Painting, Anthropology, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology, ground and high tech toilet. In present college have 10 subjects in Arts – Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Geography, Sociology, Political Science, Economics, Drawing & Painting, History and Anthropology. Each subject has 60 seats. Five subjects in Science – Physic, Chemistry, Maths, Botany and Zoology. Each subject has 60 seats. The college celebrated its silver jubilee in 2016. In 2018 college got affiliation for P.G. courses in Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Geography and Sociology.

College has one unit of National Service Scheme since 2004. N. S. S. Volunteers of college unit have participated in National Youth Festivals and in other programme conducted by central and state government. College has a career counseling cell since 2012. Career counceling cell conduct programme time to time to aware students about their career. Namami Gange programme started in college in 2021. Under this programme workshops and rallies were conducted to aware the people of this region to clean Ganga and its tributaries. Nukkad natak was played by volunteers on plastic ban to aware the people. IQAC cell was formed in college in 2021. Since then cell is conducting quiz, speech, debate etc time to time to enhance the knowledge of students.

Since 2021 college is affiliated to Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University Badshahithaul, Tehri Garhwal. In present 840 students are getting the benefits of higher education. Teachers are well qualified and dedicated to teaching. Presently college is the successful educational institution of this region. The college organises and conducts various events and co – curricular activities such as quiz, speech, debates, group discussion, lecture series, workshops, seminar, sports and games and cultural programme every year for the students. College feels proud on its alumni as they are working in different field. College has been proved a boon for the poor students of this region.
